Goal-  to cultivate a vibrant fiber arts community by:

  • Connecting the fiber arts community; 
  • Promoting the fiber arts;
  • Providing diverse and comprehensive fiber art programming;

 History-

  • April 18, 2009 - First meeting of organizations and individuals interested in developing a fiber arts center in Atlanta.
  • July 17, 2009 - Incorporated as a Non-Profit Corporation in the State of Georgia.
  • August 18, 2009 - Registered as a Charitable Organization in the State of Georgia.
  • October 13, 2009 - Initial Board members appointed by corporation trustees.
  • October 16, 2009 - Bylaws adopted.
  • October 2009 - Began accepting memberships,
    501 (c)(3) application submitted to IRS.
  • January 2010 - IRS approved 501(c)(3) application retroactive to July 17, 2009, 10 individual and 1 organizational member.
  • July 2010 - First class - "In Living Color," taught by Rebecca Ewing.
  • August 2010 - Received Social Venture Consulting Program Grant from Grassroots.org, second class - "A Taste of Fiber (Arts)," taught by Ray Pierotti, Leisa Rich and Jane Timmers.
  • September 2010 - Received VR500 award for email marketing excellence from Vertical Response.
  • January 2011 - Partnered with students at the Art Institute of Atlanta for website redesign and Ethnic Textiles seminar with Gail Goodwin.
  • March 2011 - Successful month long online fundraiser through Crowdrise.com.
  • May 2011 - First annual Fiber Garage Sale.
  • June 2011 - Yarn bombed Freedom Park in honor of International Yarn Bombing Day and World Wide Knit in Public Day and Beading + Knitting + Wow! class.
  • September 2011 - Received VR500 All-Star Award for excellence in email marketing.  Received second Social Venture Consulting Program Grant from Grassroots.org .  Leased space for SEFAA Center.  Hosted Open House.
  • October 2011 - Purchased property insurance, first SEFAA Center rental, and WiFi installed. 
  • November 2011 - Both studios leased for one year, Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws reviewed.  First annual Artists' Sale.
  • December 2011 - Final Social Ventures Consulting Grant presentation and successful year-end online fundraiser.
  • January 2012 - Lunchtime Fiber and Rush-Hour Refuge begin on Tuesday's and Wednesday's, respectively. 
  • March 2012 - First annual Square Foot Fiber Art Pin Up show.

Board of Directors -

The current board members, their affiliations, and their duties are as follows:

Martha
Andreatos

Martha is a silk painter and surface designer.  She has been a member of SEFAA since 2010 and joined the Board of Directors in January 2012.  She is past art instructor at Chastain Art Center, co-founder of Silk Painters of Atlanta, owner of SK Art and Design,and a volunteer Art Therapy instructor at Cancer Support Community.  Martha also worked for many years as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician.

Director – undertakes whatever activities are necessary to achieve the mission of the corporation and to carry out its purposes in an ethical, effective and economically sound manner. Monitors and evaluates the performance and results of the programs, services and activities supported by the corporation. 
Jennifer
Crenshaw

Jennifer is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Fabric Department of the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art and is the owner of Constance Crenshaw Designs.  Her fiber interests include weaving, screen printing on fabric, surface design, and material manipulation utilizing a sewing machine.  Jennifer's teaching experience includes Screen Printing on Fabric, Surface Design, Material Futures (material manipulation utilizing a sewing machine), Advanced Studio Practices and Weaving I, and she also works with graduate students, guiding and critiquing their creations as they work towards their MFA.  Her corporate experience includes budget management, itinerary and logistic preparation, product communication development and distribution, relationships with client, vendors and supporting departments and extensive global and domestic travel.  Shehas a BBA in Marketing from the University of Georgia, and a MFA in Textile Design from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Director – undertakes whatever activities are necessary to achieve the mission of the corporation and to carry out its purposes in an ethical, effective and economically sound manner. Monitors and evaluates the performance and results of the programs, services and activities supported by the corporation. 
Jolie Elder

Jolie is very active in the Atlanta Knitting Guild, the North Georgia Knitting Guild, the Textile Appreciation Society of Atlanta, and the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild and is a past president of both knitting guilds.  She is also a member of The Knitting Guild Association, she is a knitting instructor, she has published knitting patterns, and she is helping to establish a knitting heritage museum.  Jolie has a Bachelors of Art and Masters of Art History from Pennsylvania State University and a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies from the University of Michigan.

Secretary – custodian of corporate records, keeps meeting minutes, gives all required notices.
Linda Fetter Linda has been very involved in the formation of SEFAA, and she has served as Secretary since August 2009.  She has practiced many forms of fiber arts since childhood, has been a member of the Atlanta Knitting Guild since 1985, and has served three one-year terms as President and one term as Secretary of the Guild.  Linda earned a BA in Mathematics and Computer Science, and was employed as a programmer and analyst in state government as well as private industry from 1972 – 1994.  She has been a knitting instructor since 1996.  Treasurer - manages all corporate funds and financial records, prepares annual budget.
Suzi Gough

Suzi has been a key leader in organizing and incorporating the Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance (SEFAA) and securing 501(c) (3) designation from the IRS, and she has served as President of the Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance since August 2009.  A life-long weaver, she is also a two-term Past President of the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild.  She is past chair of Cochran-Bleckley United Givers Fund, a local version of United Way,  has a BS in Basic Engineering and was employed as civil and as a petroleum engineer from 1982 - 1994.

President – supervises and controls the affairs of the corporation.
Ashlee Lindo

Ashlee is an arts enthusiast and a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  She is currently employed as the Social Media Marketing Coordinator for the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre and has prior marketing experience with SED International and Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta.  Ashlee is committed to giving back to her community and has previously volunteered for several nonprofit organizations.

Director – undertakes whatever activities are necessary to achieve the mission of the corporation and to carry out its purposes in an ethical, effective and economically sound manner. Monitors and evaluates the performance and results of the programs, services and activities supported by the corporation.
Ray Pierotti

An established painter and educator, Ray has been a member of the SEFAA Board of Directors since January 2010.  Ray has a long history of serving the arts community and brings with him considerable knowledge and experience through his past positions as Assistant Director of the American Craft Museum, Director of National Programs for the American Craft Council, Director for The Arrowmont School, and Director of the Sawtooth School of Visual Arts and his work reopening the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts.  Ray has undergraduate and graduate degrees in music.

Director – undertakes whatever activities are necessary to achieve the mission of the corporation and to carry out its purposes in an ethical, effective and economically sound manner.  Monitors and evaluates the performance and results of the programs, services and activities supported by the corporation.
Nancy Williams

Nancy joined the SEFAA Board of Directors as Treasurer in January 2011.  She is a member of the Atlanta Knitting Guild and is a former Senior Executive Assistant to the Managing Vice President of the AT&T Global Account for Nortel Networks - Carrier Solutions.  Nancy has also been employed as Assistant to the President and CEO of Royal Ten Cate (USA), Inc. and has held sales and marketing positions with Select Service and Supply.  Her educational background includes university-level studies at Emory University and DeKalb College in Atlanta as well as language studies in Venlo, The Netherlands.

Monitors and evaluates the performance and results of the programs, services and activities supported by the corporation.
