Join SEFAA for a hands-on introduction to flax processing with fiber artist Jennifer Folsom. Learn about growing flax, retting methods (dew vs. water), and how region impacts results from plant to fiber and weaving considerations. You'll have the chance to see, touch, and try flax processing techniques like breaking, hackling, and dressing a distaff.

Jennifer Folsom creates handspun yarn, handwoven textiles, and artist books using traditional tools and innovation. Whether growing flax, washing fleece, or binding books, she connects with generations of makers who have transformed fibers into meaningful, functional objects. Through her work and teaching, Jennifer recognizes the often-invisible role textiles play in our lives and honors her predecessors.
