Image: Fiber Fallout: Plastiturtle by Shondra Leigh confronts the pervasive impact of plastic pollution on our world. Constructed from plastic bags, polyester thread, synthetic yarn scraps, and plastic buttons, the piece employs sewing to transform discarded materials into a visually compelling statement.

Using the turtle as a symbol of wisdom and resilience, Shondra reflects on the infiltration of microplastics into ecosystems and the threat they pose to all living beings, including future generations. As a mother and teacher, her work channels concern into creativity, inspiring viewers to consider their role in this environmental crisis while offering a message of hope and collective responsibility.
