This class introduces children to the joys of sewing in a fun, supportive environment. While a few needle pokes may happen along the way, the rewards are many—from improved hand-eye coordination to those sweet moments of focused concentration (tongue sticking out and all!).

Students will learn and practice basic needle skills and thread management using premade quilt pieces. Drawing and mark-making tools will also be available to encourage creative expression.

Adult helpers are welcome and encouraged to bring their own handwork or participate alongside their child on a separate project. The focus is on empowering young makers to do as much as they can independently, with gentle guidance and encouragement.

Your instructor, Mary Mattimoe is inspired by community and storytelling. Her art quilts draw on a wide range of techniques, using texture and layered processes to bring her narratives to life. Her work was awarded Best of Show at Quilt National 2023, and she actively participates in both local Atlanta and international textile art communities.
