Unwind as you explore the meditative art of Suminagashi, or Japanese marbling. Watch as delicate swirls of color float on water and transfer onto paper or fabric, creating mesmerizing, one-of-a-kind designs.

Once your marbled pieces have dried, you'll transform them into beautifully crafted books using traditional Asian soft binding, stab stitching, and origami book techniques. These two art forms complement each other perfectly—offering a relaxing, hands-on experience that blends color, texture, and form.

In this class, you'll learn:

  • Techniques for water marbling with inks and other pigments
  • How to create soft-stitched and stab-bound books
  • How to fold and assemble star-shaped origami books

By the end of the workshop, you'll have the skills to continue both marbling and bookmaking at home or in your studio—plus a collection of handmade works to inspire your next creative project.
